Vampt Vintage Design
The humble beginnings of Vampt Vintage Design saw Maxine and Dave Beeman restoring vintage lamps out of their spare bedroom in early 2000.
Discovering retro auctions became the game changer leading them to expand to other collectable furnishings.
Blown away by top-end Scandinavian designs the couple quickly hunted for suppliers in Denmark and have since imported 42 containers of treasures into Australia.
Today, Vampt Vintage Design has a refined collection of authentic vintage pieces from all over the world, predominantly Scandinavia. Though the pair’s eye for respective chattels has them sourcing items from Italy, Holland, and most recently Brazil. “These are the show-stopping pieces needed for a great interior” Lovers of Mid-Century we ask Maxine and Dave what they love most about this era of furniture. “Mid-Century furniture is sustainable and the period where all the greatest designs were born. Quality, posture, style. It’s undoubtedly the best!… And if you insist on needing something brand new, pieces can be fully restored and reupholstered to your specifications. Lasting the test of time, a 2nd time around”

When talking interior décor, what does home mean to this home-furnishing couple?
“A house is just walls, without character furniture to make it a home. We pride ourselves on making a difference. Not just blending in.” Whether it’s a Strand film lamp on a timber frame or a Børge Mogensen leather sofa, Maxine and Dave distinguish the influences of country, culture, and era, gathering pieces to suit a variety of tastes. “Scandinavian design is clean-lined, Brazilian furniture striking and strong, Italian lamps and furniture add style and character and Dutch chairs by the likes of Artifort can become the favourite chair in any room”
Creative talent combined with years of experience has given them the ability to uniquely style houses.
“We have had a large focus on house styling for many years now, and when styling houses for sale, we find the results we get make people wonder why they didn’t set it up like this before. Real style styling!”

Friday Religion
Artisanal, Australian-made, custom designed with lifestyle in mind. Friday Religion somehow manufactures the Friday feeling into something tangible; Simply brilliant furniture. Having collectively lived in the bay for 14 years, Will & Trenton, the masters behind Friday Religion, are no strangers to the lifestyle sought after here. “I think most people here enjoy having a good time. I dare say when it’s not at the beach, it’s probably around a table with friends, drinks, and food… That’s just like us. We love sharing moments with family and friends. We love big cook-ups and creating memories long into the night.” Habitually creative and laid back, Friday Religion radiates the idea that life is here to be enjoyed every day – especially Fridays! “We want our furniture to cause a mood-boosting, ripple effect outwards: look beautiful, inspire and delight all those who use them.”
Now that we’ve established the ethos, let’s talk design.
“I guess you would describe it as artisan style concrete and timber furniture, inspired by minimal Scandinavian designs.”
What drew you to the Scandinavian style?
“They use a lot of clean lines and are refined in their design. Because we work a lot with GFRC concrete - this style works for us. We like our things to be functional and fun, creating a place where people can enjoy a lifetime of good times.”
One thing that makes Friday Religion stand out from the crowd is the time and craftsmanship that goes into making each individual piece. “We don’t have a big factory or lots of machinery, so everything is done by hand and brings with it a certain artisan style that we love.”The care needed to manipulate the materials into the final ensemble requires meticulous planning and skill, especially the concrete elements. “It’s always the most nerve-racking time, as concrete can do all sorts of things. It only takes one little mistake or one missing screw and everything can go wrong.” A follow-up call to Trenton caught him mid-construct sanding a recent order, which intrigued us about the process.
“We usually start by working through all the layers of the design, planning for each section. Typically, we will start with the concrete, as this needs time to cure and rest. For this, we build a mold, mix the concrete, and pour. After it’s poured, we let it set over a few days, after which we will disassemble it and begin the curing and sealing process, which can take anywhere from a few days to weeks. While that’s happening, we work on any timber sections of the piece”

“Home means everything to us. I think this became even more apparent after the floods this year. Seeing so many people affected, and being one of those, it really made us appreciate it a lot more. To us home is for switching off, relaxing, enjoying moments with loved ones and should be a place of escape where everything inside it makes you feel good. We can only hope that our pieces add to this.”
